This framework outlines the award categories , structured around career progression , with five judging criteria for each. It ensures inclusivity across health, social care, and non-clinical staff , recognising contributions at every stage of a career.

Early Career 

The Student of the Year Award celebrates students in health, social care, or associated disciplines who demonstrate academic excellence, practical skill, professionalism, and commitment during placements or community projects.

Nominations can be submitted by educators, mentors, placement supervisors, or fellow students who have directly observed the nominee’s performance and impact.

The Rising Star Award honours early-career professionals in health, social care, or support services who demonstrate exceptional promise, strong leadership potential, and a genuine commitment to learning and improving care.

Nominations can be submitted by line managers, mentors, colleagues, or professional peers who have directly witnessed the nominee’s early-career contributions and impact.

Professional Excellence 

The Clinical Care Excellence Award celebrates individuals in health or social care roles who demonstrate exceptional compassion, dedication, and resilience. This includes professionals whose direct work has made a remarkable impact on service users, whether they are qualified practitioners or in vital support roles.

Nominations can be made by patients, clients, service users, colleagues, or managers who have personally experienced the nominee’s outstanding care or support.

The Non-Clinical Excellence Award shines a spotlight on the many non-clinical and behind-the-scenes professionals — including administration, portering, estates, catering, HR, finance, IT, and other essential services — whose dedication, efficiency, and care enable high-quality frontline work.

These individuals are the quiet champions of our health and social care system, ensuring that everything runs smoothly so others can provide safe and effective care. Nominations may come from colleagues, managers, service users, or other staff  who have directly benefited from the nominee’s invaluable contributions.

The Team Excellence Award recognises outstanding collaboration across clinical, social care, and support teams. It celebrates multidisciplinary teamwork, integration, and innovation that lead to meaningful improvements in care quality and service delivery.

Nominations can be submitted by service users, partner organisations, colleagues, or managers  who have directly observed or benefited from the team’s collaborative impact.

The Educator / Training Initiative Award recognises individuals or organisations that demonstrate outstanding excellence in teaching, mentoring, or developing staff and students across health, social care, and support services — helping to strengthen and sustain the future workforce.

Nominations may come from students, trainees, colleagues, or senior leaders who have directly observed the effectiveness and impact of the nominee’s teaching or training initiative.

Leadership & System Impact 

Honouring inspirational leaders or initiatives that promote staff wellbeing, resilience, morale, and retention, across both frontline and support functions.

Nominations can be submitted by colleagues, team members, managers, or staff who have experienced or benefited from the nominee’s leadership and wellbeing initiatives.

The Patient Choice Award focuses on honouring healthcare or social care professionals whose care and dedication have made a profound, personal impact on those they serve. This award celebrates individuals who have earned the heartfelt appreciation of patients, clients, or service users through outstanding empathy, responsiveness, and commitment.

Nominations can be made directly by patients, clients, or service users, as well as by families or carers who have experienced the nominee’s exceptional care and support.

Please note: Self-nominations, nominations from colleagues, managers, or anyone without direct experience of the nominee’s care will not be accepted.
